With Songs for Nina and Johanna, he shares vocal duties with two of Sweden’s most distinctive voices – his long-time live collaborator Nina Persson of The Cardigans, as well as Johanna Söderberg of First Aid Kit. Written from a place of reflection on love, family, and parenthood, Yorkston’s latest work blends tender lyricism with an understated musicality that benefits from the input of an evolving cast of collaborators. The sessions—more structured than previous efforts – were led by co-producer Daniel Bengtson at Studio Rymden, and feature contributions from guitarist Peter Morén, saxophonist Lina Langendorf, and drummer Lars Skoglund. Söderberg, pregnant at the time of recording, brought a heightened emotional sensitivity to her performances, adding further depth to an already poignant record.
At once heart-rending and joyful, Songs for Nina and Johanna captures the magic of live recording, the openness of creative trust, and the beauty of unexpected harmony. It is a deeply personal and musically rich album, brought to life through the shared vision of artists across generations and geography.
